Before Your Camp Begins
A few practical things to know before joining one of our Mandarin Camps in China.
Apply Early
The earlier you apply, the better. We recommend applying at least 3–6 months before your camp starts, giving you plenty of time to arrange your visa (if required), prepare for your trip, and secure your preferred camp session before places fill up.
Visa Support
For most participants, a tourist (L) visa is sufficient to attend our camp. After registration, we’ll provide all the necessary supporting documents, including an invitation letter and a step-by-step visa guide. Our team is happy to answer any questions and guide you through the application process.
Travel & Health Insurance
All participants should have valid travel and health insurance covering medical treatment in China before the camp begins. Having the right insurance ensures you can receive appropriate medical care if needed and gives you peace of mind throughout your stay.
Airport Pickup
Complimentary airport pickup is included for participants arriving at Shanghai Pudong International Airport within the scheduled arrival window for eligible camp programmes. For arrivals outside these times, we can usually arrange airport pickup for an additional fee.
Our staff will meet you at the airport, assist you with your luggage, and escort you safely to your accommodation, ensuring a smooth and comfortable start to your camp experience.
Good to Know
- All Levels Welcome
Whether you’re joining our Kids, Teens, Adults, or Family Camp, no previous Mandarin experience is required. Many of our participants join as complete beginners, while others come to further develop their existing Mandarin skills.
Our experienced teachers guide every learner step by step, helping you build the confidence to understand, speak, and use Mandarin in real-life situations from your very first lessons. Before long, you’ll be introducing yourself, ordering food, and communicating in Chinese with increasing confidence.
Participants with previous Mandarin experience complete a placement assessment before the camp, helping us place them in the most suitable group and ensuring they continue learning at the right pace.
- All Ages Welcome
Our four camps are designed for different stages of life. Children and teenagers enjoy programmes tailored to their age and interests, adults join a community of learners ranging from university students to working professionals and retirees, and families can learn Mandarin and experience China together.
Within each camp, participants are grouped according to their age and Mandarin level whenever appropriate, ensuring everyone learns alongside others with similar learning needs and feels comfortable from the very first day.
Family members do not need to have the same Mandarin level. Adults and children follow their own learning paths while sharing the overall camp experience together.
- Health & Medical Care
The health and wellbeing of every participant is our highest priority, whether you’re joining our Kids, Teens, Adults, or Family Camp.
If someone becomes ill during the camp, our staff will ensure they receive the appropriate medical care. For minor illnesses, we can arrange treatment at a local clinic. If more extensive care is needed, we’ll accompany the participant to a hospital and provide any necessary assistance.
For participants in our Kids and Teens Camps, parents or guardians will be contacted immediately to discuss the situation and any necessary next steps. Participants in our Adults Camp can decide themselves whom they would like us to contact. In our Family Camp, we will coordinate directly with the accompanying family members.
